I think the author tries too hard to make a 20th century Shakespeare tragedy. The book appears to constantly hit you over the head with the fact that these people of money and highbrow society Are shallow and lack conviction. The truth is corruption within society is active everywhere at all levels of society not just the rich. People can be shallow no matter how much money they have or don’t have. It’s all in who you associate with.I don’t find the character of Jay Gatsby to be believable and Nick’s character becomes all to compelled with this individual from such passing connections I honestly think that Nick himself is not a believable character. The saving grace of this book is the writing style which is very eloquent and enjoyable to read
