I WAS NOSTALGIA-BAITED! The movie was disappointing and seemed kind of like a youtube video at certain points. I understand that the is Robert Rodriguez's style and his art form, but it missed the mark for me. I was ready to experience part two of Sharkboy and Lavagirl mixed with some Spy kids, but instead, I was subjected to a cheesy plot with an empty cliched message. I understand everyone says it's only a kids movie, but that is no excuse for this horrible film for sucking so much. It was not only the cheesiness (which is fine) but the fact that familiar characters had only like 15 mins of screen time, and the actors for this movie were all horrible, except maybe for Pedro Pascal, who didn't do so bad (although I might be biased because of the Mandalorian.) In an era where kids' movies are increasing in quality, this movie seems out of place and forgetful. Robert Rodrigeuz making Sharkboy and Lavagirl and Spy Kids did not deliver in this movie. It was obviously easy money for him, using a small budget but big names to make a movie that everyone will watch for the nostalgia, smh.
The CGI was worse than Spy Kids and SBLG and We can be Heroes came out in 2020! Why?
And also I hate Trump, but did they really have to have political undertones with a trump-Esque president being incompetent? I hate including politics in kid's movies.
