I'm 15 years old. My high school chemistry class was forced to watch this to learn about what really happened at Chernobyl. I had low expectations for it when I started watching since I usually don't like what my school has to show us. After watching the show, I can say it is truly breathtaking. And although it's hard to watch sometimes, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely one of the better shows I've watched in a long time. The tension and emotion in some of the scenes really helps to show what people were going through at the time. And if you're worried you might not understand all the big terms they use, rest assured that they explain everything in a way that's relatively easy to understand.
To address some criticism the show has received, yes it's slow at times. It's not action all the time like you might see in Avengers: Infinity War. This show takes time to build characters and make you feel attached to them. They also do a really good job at telling the story as close to reality as possible.
I highly recommend checking this out. Maybe try going in with low expectations like I did, and you might just be pleasantly surprised.
