A brilliant film! Well cast, well acted and one of the best British films ever made. I love Charles Laughton in this and he has sterling support with John Mills and De Banzie as the highly intelligent and highly capable eldest daughter Maggie.

So this is a Science fiction drama that looks like a Cher video and USN recruitment drive! I lost count of planes landing and planes taking off that i forgot about the story!!! We see a slightly aged Kirk Douglas as the Captain of a modern 1980 aircraft carrier who along with his ship has been transported backin time to 1941 a day before the attack on Pearl Harbour. What follows is the usual this cant be happening and what the hell happened!!!?? We then see the woefully underused Katherine Ross and the ever so reliable Charles Durning as well as a gorgeous pooch called Charlie! Who are attacked by the dastardly Japanese forces and have to be rescued by the USS NIMITZ! which is the time transported ship. Charles Durning on rescue is amazed at the modern helicopters etc and is trying to get back to Pearl Harbour as he is Senator and a VIP. Well, thats pretty muchthe story if there was one🤷 i found the whole film a bit clunky and repetitive with the Navy arsenal hogging the celluoid and me stifling another yawn. Martin Sheen is also there and ive no idea why???? As he brings not much to the party! His character was so badly written it should have been used for chum. There was quite a few deaths and 4 were caused by an escaping pooch!!! It just got a bit meh overall and well, nothing much happened. A brilliant idea! What if a modern Aircraft carrier went up against the Japanese taskforce before it had time to attack the US and change history!!! So many dilemmas to ponder! What we got was two people marooned on an island and they are seen 40 years later? I mean it was awful! Please note, that the film was made 45 years ago and is now longer than the original time slip! Wowsers.

Hammer films are part of my childhood and i often watch them when i fancy a quality scare with the usual splendid cast! Dracula is a solid adaptation and Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing are the best Fang Meister and Worldly brave academic ever! Its always amazing to see how athletic Cushing was in this film and he was more than a match for the Caped Villain. From the musical score to the overall cast and acting chops its truly an impressive film. My only niggle is Michael Gough who played Arthur and was Van Helsing's right hand man! I just thought he was miscast and a bit overdramatic at times but on the whole he got the job done. On a more modern note, i thought the recent BBC Dracula adaptation was fantastic up to the start of episode 3 where it all went Pete Tong! So over 50 years later the Hammer film still wins👍

I love the 1979 adaptation with the very capable David Soul and an utterly sinister and creepy James Mason! The window scene and the rocking chair scene are still so scary and i was terrified when i first saw them. This mini series scared the bejeesus out of me and my family when it first aired and has been a firm favourite ever since. The Rob Lowe one was ok and had a decent stab at the scarefest. Now, i was really looking forward to this new attempt at Mr Kings chilling story and the constant release push back was annoying. So ive now watched it and i will start with the pros and finish on the cons. Pro Period setting. Illuminated crucifixes. Vampire eyes. Cons Weak leads, both no charisma, no acting chops and utterly lost in translation. Wooden acting by most of the cast. Poor script. A bit rushed! No character development. Mr Barlow underused. The mortuary scene was embarrassing and laughable. Mark Petrie was too young. Should have been a mini series. I could go on and savage this mess of a production and in my humble opinion the Director should be tarred and feathered by Mr King.

Was looking forward to this as i love period drama. So! Where do i begin? I was amazed at how quickly they acquired their fortune! One minute the mother is cooking off one Herring at a time to slowly feed the hungry populace. Then two snotty kids extort their money and beat up her lame son! So, mum is back to square one in trying to pay the rent! 20 mins later they are moving into the local gentry pile after becoming rich quicker than a scratch card winner! It was all too fast and didn't have any drama to it. Their growing herring business was shown as a crap montage that comprised of signs that got bigger and fancier and to my knowledge nobody else was selling herring like them as that business opportunity just flew past everyone else like a flying fish in a storm. Then, we are supposed to believe that these 19th Century working class people who didn't even know how a bank worked speculated in stocks and shares🤷 I'm not saying it could not have happened, but the genesis of their fortune could have had a bit more detail! Maybe hearing two Gents talking on a train about the possibilities of striking gold etc! Just something that planted the seed of "what if" hence why its a drama series!!!! So, in the aforementioned montage we are shown ma and pa in the bank with the most patient, trustworthy bank clerk in the world who gets them to buy shares in X,Y&Z! No discussion, no arguments over what if we lose our money? Nope, just a quick signature and next thing they are moving to the very house that they tried to get work from before any herring was slow cooked, but were shooed away by the hag of a housekeeper who now works for them🤷 cliché!!!!!!! Its a 19th Century equivalent of the Beverley Hill Billies, but without the humour. Even the idea of the family leaving their small home and putting their worldly goods in carts and trotting off to the manor is far fetched beyond belief. One friend says goodbye to this respected family and thats it! No fanfare or at least hangers on at their new found wealth. If it had been gradual then i may have swallowed it, but so much was crammed into the first episode it has put me off herring for life😡

Howling at the sheer visual diarrhea on screen! The acting is decent but the production values and £16.99 visual effects budget is plain to see on screen. Its hilarious in places albeit unintentional and deserves a cult following! I found it by accident whilst browsing and nurturing a hangover lying on the sofa. As i lay open mouthed at the ill conceived pish that was hurting my eyes i quickly became aware of the importance of this celluloid classic and like Star Wars a holiday special it should be loved and shared by like-minded nerds who laugh in unison at the afflicted.

Ok, its a 1950's adaptation but its sooo bad! Lon Chaney Jnr is not a great actor and he is woeful in the role. The sets are poor and the acting is awful. Its like a school play at times... Sorry but Pish!!

So ive watched the entire season and I'm ummming and ahhhhing if i actually liked it or did i think it was utter pish🤷 Well, i still haven't made up my mind! At times its all over the place and the CGI is awful! And at times it suffers from loose ends, stupid character decisions that make no sense and did i mention the awful CGI!!!!! On the plus side the actor who plays the evil younger brother Domition chews the scenery in a fun way and i actually think im still watching because of him. To be fair the leads are good, but the shenanigans are too much at times and the plot is wafer thin.... apparently the budget is £140 Million which must have been spent on the catering as i really dont see it on screen! The sets are CGI and there isnt a huge cast either! The extras make me giggle as they just walk about trying to look busy whilst conviently hiding their frank and beans under a well adjusted towel! Spartacus would have shown the whole shebang without a blush. Spartacus was and is the daddy of the sword and sand genre which this does try to duplicate in its own way! The usual brothel sex scenes raise their heads from time to time, which are hand in hand with these productions and before i even pressed play i knew it wasnt a show i would sit and watch with Aunty May...but apart from that its a half decent stab at a murky period in Romes history. If there is a second season then please calm down on the spinning plates all over the place and concentrate on one plot line! Or one that is easy to follow.

Its actually a well cast and well acted period drama from the 1970's. I liked the first and second series as it was more of a family driven piece with the main protagonist Jack Ford machavellian money making or increasing his power schemes. By the third season it was just too much wheeling and dealing and it got a bit bogged down which was a pity. Don't get me wrong its still a great series and a reboot would be awesome. I particularly liked the character of Tom who was the black sheep of the family, but actually a hard working gentle natured man who would do anything for anyone. James Bolam who played Jack Ford was fantastic and showed great range.

Travesty there was only 1 season! Loved this show. Great cast full of British Character actors and a good starring role for Anthony Andrews. A remake would be great but I must admit It may not recapture the gritty of this drama It was well acted, well written and the ill fitting uniforms to the day to day drudgery of mud, cold conditions and lack of a polished look you would always see in a US production only makes it better. One of the better British series from the 1970's. Such a shame it ended too early.
