I really enjoyed the book, but the movie was disappointing. I may have had a negative outlook going into it, because I read the book first, but the movie is rough on it's own. The majority of the dialogue seems forced, and even very emotional, significant scenes are awkwardly delivered. I'm not sure if I blame the acting, the directing, or something else, but it just doesn't come through very well. Moments that are supposed to be tense or suspenseful are simply boring or awkward, and it's just not an enjoyable movie. I'm not sure why this movie has such high reviews - the most exciting part of this movie was just trying not to laugh. In terms of character descriptions, Johnny was perfect, but Dally is completely different to how he was described in the book. This movie has places where it shines, but I certainly will not be watching it again.
