Gal gadot is mesmerizing, but it's not enough to save this train wreck.
The internal logic of this movie is completely inconsistent and character motivations are so incomprehensible something comes up every few minutes that makes no sense (Chris Pine body snatches some poor guy and the supposed heroes never even pretend to care? You can only make one wish with the magic stone except when Kristen Wiig needs to turn into a reject from the cats musical? Physical contact is needed to make a wish except when the stakes need to be raised and then metaphorically "touching" people through a helicopter broadcast is enough?)
Recent superhero movies have gone a long way to make the villains compelling and at times even sympathetic, but I think the main villain played by Pedro Pascal is one of the main problems of the movie. His performance is fine, but I'm still not sure what his characters motivations were. He never states any plan or specific goal (but they are definitely not going for a joker-style agent of chassis either), so there's not really anything to root for our against.
Even the action sequences seem muddled and sloppy. Lots of unnecessarily convoluted methods are employed to take on threats, and WW's power set is even more inconsistent than usual in these kind of movies.
Maybe this movie would have passed muster in 1984, but I have come to expect more out of even superhero movies, and it just seems or of place in 2020.
