I faithfully watch ABC World News tonight and enjoy the show with David Muir, and other hosts. This evening, May 30, I watched a segment highlighting commencement at Wilberforce University in Ohio. It was stated that Wilberforce was the first degree granting HBCU in the USA. That is not correct. Lincoln University was founded in 1854 and was the first degree granting university in the country. Wilberforce was the first degree granting HBCU, founded by and run by African Americans. Lincoln U.of Pennsylvania was originally founded and run by the Presbyterian Church with a white faculty and staff. The first Back president was Horace Mann Bond, Class of 1923, who became president in 1945. Please note this correction. Thank you, Diane Baker Freeman, Philadelphia, PA
