Definitely does not live up to the hype. The trouble with high definition in film and tv is it that heightens the awareness that this is all taking place on a highly stylized movie set. How can you immerse yourself into the era and events of 1917 when your senses are attuned to the subtle lighting techniques the director used, how the camera angles are arranged just so to highlight the bloated bodies lying in the water. All way too obvious and careful to fully engage the viewer.
The lead actor did not engage me either. I understand Mendes May have wanted to cast Everyman, but charisma in a lead is a pretty essential part of any movie. Donโt need handsome, but need more than an obviously botoxed guy in order to have the appearance of someone younger!
Disappointed of Austin
