This is probably one of my favorite films of all time. A review on here mentions how his motivations are never explained but I see the protagonist as more of an Alex Delarge type. His motivations don't have to be explained. I read "El Angel Negro" by Rodolfo Palacios which is supposed to be an interview-type of biography about the real life of Carlos Robledo Puch, which is what inspired the director(Luis Ortega) to make the movie in the first place. Even in the book, his motivations are never explained which is what makes him even more intriguing than any other killer I've read/researched about. The author briefly mentions in the beginning how Carlos would get picked on but it doesn't use this as its basis for his psychopathic behavior. The things he is described to have done in real life are honestly much worse than what was portrayed in the movie. Where the book completely grabs your attention with its thrilling story-telling, that's where the movie falls flat in my opinion. Again, not about the protagonist but I had more issues with the script than anything else. The third act feels rushed but, it has a stellar cast including Lorenzo Ferro who was 18 at the time of filming and did a fantastic job for his first time being on film. From the music, to the cinematography, to the sets and costumes everything is completely stellar. If you are debating about watching this, I definitely suggest you do!
