Too slow, way too slow.
I persevered as it was highly recommended to me, but the plot moved at a glacial pace until just before the end.
I found the characters were a little stereotypical and couldnโt really feel sympathetic to most of them.
The town doctor, Jack Troy, is a noble but aloof and sad figure. His unmarried eldest daughter seems too happy to just stay at home and look after her widowed father.
I found the prose was lyrical but it just made the novel too slow.
