Okay, here's my two cent dose of reality on this film. It seems that many folks are fawning over their favorite filmmaker Nolan and overusing words like "masterpiece", "breathtaking", "visionary" and many more adjectives to describe this film. I was disappointed and my wife was as well. I know this movie is about Oppenheimer, however this time in history was about the Manhattan Project which he headed. It was more about his personal life (with a few gratuitous and unnecessary sexual scenes) and the aftermath of retaining his security clearance.
We live in Oak Ridge, the "home" of the Manhattan Project. There are several incredible museums here that tell the story of this project. This movie did not. So if you are expecting a historical view of the events how it all came about, for the most part it missed. Sure, there were good parts that addressed the project and how it all panned out and testing the "gadget" but not enough of the incredible effort and manpower it took to actually build the bomb. To me, that's the story. Not so much of his personal life.
The acting was excellent. To much of the string instruments trying to build up the suspense in some scenes. Overall I'd rate it a 6 out of 10. That's my opinion from a regular guy who has lived over 70 years and knows about the amazing history of this project. It just missed for me.
