Excellent reading material. I am with the author when she says that history can be understood or felt better through emotions of the contemporary characters. The book brings out ecosystems of the day, including the ordinarily unnoticed facets such as the love for Eli, the elephant. There is no bias in the narration as Kovilakam people, moplas, tribals and the british are all picturized vividly and events built stage by stage.
