Well...hate to go against the grain. First I'll say, the movie was good. However, I thought it was too long and lacked depth in the script dialogue. I do believe A$AP Rocky's role will get a nod for supporting actor.
It was a signature Spike Lee joint in terms of cinematography, score and opportunity to interject a social discourse message. In doing so, he (at times) veers into no man's land. It felt like he owed a few favors or wanted to honor a few of his loyalists, leading to empty cameos...Rosie Perez, Rick Foxx, Nick Turturro, Wendell Pierce...
Dean Winter...Detective Higgins was at times over the top and not believable. Jeffrey Wright was not given enough space to show his true chops. It took Denzel a minute to warm up but his scenes with A$AP Rocky late in the film reels it back in.
Overall, the film was very good and entertaining but I thought it had greater potential...just my 2 cents
