I loved the story when I read it in Analog back in the day - and enjoyed a reread five years ago. This new movie is the best of all and is true in details and dialog with the novel - plus wonderful cgi. However, this seems like a cliffs notes version to me ... so much of the character interaction and story texture found in the novel is missing - necessary in even a two part movie, I guess. We jump from scene to scene - and the 2+ hours moves very quickly - but the pace never allowed me to connect with the characters or story. If you never read the novel, you experience may be different. Definitely worth seeing - hoping part two works better for me though.
