Soulless.
Pros: Some nice backdrops, and not the hot mess of Dominion.
Cons: Woeful cookie cutter characters and motivations. All the pointless side characters are chomped off one by one with ever decreasing emotion from the core clan. In fact, the last guy to bite the dust doesnโt even get a solitary โmehโ.
The main characters are devoid of any interesting traits or development and anything added to round them off is just a lazy ploy to add an easy Ah ha! to the plot at the end. One guy lost his child, therefore wants to sacrifice himself for some other kidsโฆ hardly complex or remotely interesting. Oh, and he inextricably survives certain death anyway, soโฆ
The story is simple, dull and rushed. We want to stop heart disease so yadda-yadda-science-mumbo-jumbo need dino dna. And these people will do it forโฆ a lot of money. Weak.
The dinosaurs themselves are fleeting. It feels like they pop up occasionally to remind us its a Jurassic Park film. As ever plot armour protects the core cast from meeting their demise and at least adding some interest. Then silly things like a T Rex chewing a life raft that DOESNโT burst is just insulting to these beasts we are meant to fear.
I donโt understand why they keep beating the same drum with these reboots that the world is now bored of dinosaurs. They seem to forget they never actually gave us what we wanted. A proper look at what the world would be like if we cohabited. Even the premise of Jurassic World was โthese dinosaurs are now boringโ.
Just a pointless movie.
It isnโt as bad as Dominion, sure. Thatโs really not praise you want.
