*SPOILER ALERT* Bait and switch, I understand that it was supposed to be a personal revisiting of the deep seeded issues of humanity (and apparently daddy issues), but it came off as a pedantic and desperate attempt to be a solar system level interstellar experience with a lackluster ending that a child could predict. I can only imagine how people must have felt that paid to see this in the theatre.
*Edit*
Additionally, Christianity holds a strong subtext throughout the film which speaks to the ultimate (yet predictable) ending that we are alone in the universe as Gods one and only creation. It wouldn't surprise me if the film was backed by religiously affiliated organizations.
