The album “My Heart Is An Animal” is a bittersweet pop compilation that was dropped in August 2019 by “up-and-coming” teen Victor Ferrer. This album provides Victor’s accounts of adolescence love and heartbreak. As well-written and catchy as each of the songs try to be, they are overshadowed by unprofessional vocals and audio recording.
The opening track and single “Heart’s Desire” sets the tone of the album as monotone not only in emotion but also to the ears. While many of the featured artists had a lot of potential, including the smooth vocals of Melia Velez, in the song “Hide and Seek”, the blending needs serious construction. The highlight track is easily “Something New”, which tells a story of a boy in his lover, traveling to the city and dancing until they can no longer stand. It’s very catchy, but even the best of the tracks surpassed by the lack of vocal training.
The most disappointing piece was “Summer Nights” due to its severe lack of professionalism and poor composition of easily-forgettable lyrics and truly disappointing vocalizations. I could barely complete my listening of the track. Overall, I give the album a 4/10 after a few listens, only due to the idea that Victor Ferrer could possibly thrive as a songwriter or through professional vocal training, but the poor professionalism and vocals of the album make it very difficult to fully interpret.
