In the beginning, I thought the wriiter was very poetic but soon lost that fascination. The story is somewhat unbelievable with a girl's family abandoning her when she is about 6 years old.She grows up alone learning to feed herself and live in a swamp with out a indoor bathroom , electricity or running water. She does not ever go to school but is taught to read and write by a young boy who befriend her. She teaches herself to drive a boat, refuel it and even earn money for food and gasoline.Pretty unbelievable all in all but becomes like a zoological mantra for birds and feathers found by the girl in this swamp land. I thought it too long and not terribly believable and at times very juvenile.
Probably good reading for a preteen or early adolescent girl. The writer is a mature woman and an obvious lover of nature. She has a Phd. In Zoology.
