I think that this new point of view of how reality is perceived is breaking new ground and new views of how space and time can change people. If we continue with the old views of the old TNG the new generation may be more bored without the snap, crackle and pop, excitement that today's over the top grunge movies are spitting out for the sake of the bucks to keep afloat. Keep Picard in business and develop an internal relationship that this new family can work together eventually instead of immediately walking into the good ol days.
