The movie is even more enjoyable the second and third go around! The plot is simple as it centers around Barbie’s exploration into reality, but the superior performances from Robbie and Gosling propel this film beyond expectations. The ending is exceptional, not leaving a dry eye in the room. Accompanied by an outstanding soundtrack that perfectly captures the flourishes, accents, and environment of Barbieland and Los Angeles, the feature film “Barbie” is going to be discussed for a while regardless if you liked it or not. For those who have expressed disappointment and frustration with Gerwig’s new film, I advise you to some simple facts. First off, “Barbie” got the PG-13 rating well in advance before premiering in theaters July 21st. If you are thinking about hitting your local theater, I would recommend viewing the trailer and looking at parent reviews of the film. The trailer clearly contains adult humor and thematic elements that could go over younger heads and upset little ones. However, the final decision whether to bring your kids or not is up to you. Second, the movie is female-driven and purpose-driven, meaning that themes of feminism and equality are prominent throughout the experience. Again, I would advise you to do some research through parent reviews online and decide if this is a movie for you. If the elements of feminism and equality possibly upset you, I would skip this film. Finally, those who say there is no plot or story to the film need to do some foundational research. When I first viewed the film, I had a basic understanding of what was happening, but I didn’t know the entire plot which made it enjoyable. I understand the argument that the pace of the film can be slow at times, but really absorb in those slower moments. The more one absorbs, the more they will appreciate the messages “Barbie” is promoting to audiences worldwide.
