i've given the series a one star for now until enough viewers have seen my post and hopefully the producers will too. It is a five star series and i will update this post once i have made my point. Okay here it is: What's with Agent Tench and his non-stop consumption of cigarettes? Okay, okay, i already know what you're thinking...it's to reflect the period in the 70's when all the colorful, non conformist cool dudes used to smoke. Okay so i get it already. But the producers do a fine job of period dating starting with the period cars, furniture, clothes, etc etc, so we know it's the 70's and every scene is a constant reminder that hey, this isn't 2020 dear viewer, we're back here in the 70's. And Tench is an excellent actor who pulls off the gruff, tough, no-nonsense FBI role flawlessly. So why saddle him with the endless smokes? Now that i've said that you're likely thinking, 'what's the harm'? Here's my point: Today's viewers are not used to seeing smokers in movies or on television anymore. To see anyone light up in this day and age is noticeable and to some degree offputting. When I notice Tench with a smoke in his hand every time he does it, means that i'm distracted from the flow of the show. If you notice it yourself, that means that you're not focusing on the flow of the show either. Ask yourself this, do you notice the furniture or the clothing or the hair styles as the show moves along? Of course not because it's part of the bigger picture and is background created by the producers to subtly keep the viewer in the past where the events are occurring. So to conclude, my advice to the show's producers is to give Agent Tench a breather already and quite possibly help him kick the habit if he's a smoker in real life.
