Azure Summer

I don’t even know where to start. Let me just say I wanted to love this movie. I love horror movies and especially vampire movies, and anything set in the deep South always gets my attention. But this was a HUGE FAIL!!! It’s obvious to me that more than half of the reviews claiming this movie is “amazing”, or a “masterpiece” were just paid reviews to get people to go see this movie and a big payout at the box office. So many things were off in this movie! The first hour and a half is filled with random useless conversations and is beyond boring! I found myself squirming in my seat and bored out of my mind! And let me make it clear, I love a good slow burn, a good buildup and when movies allow for character development, but this wasn’t that!! Then the lingo in this movie, specifically from Michael B Jordan saying lines like “Nah F*ck that” and other modern slang phrases, in a movie that’s supposed to be set back in the 1930’s made it so unbelievable and ridiculous! I’m suprised at all the hype he gets when his acting skills are truly subpar! There were so many missed opportunities to make this film great. I think there was maybe one scary scene, and the rest was just cringe and cheesy!! They tried to use an almost all black cast to get more hype and approval so that people would want to support it more. This movie was another race based movie with the whole “the white man is bad” vibe mixed in with a few vampires at the end that weren’t even scary. There were also some unnecessary sexual scenes added that had zero purpose in the movie other than to add the “sex sells” aspect. I wanted to love this movie, and it really could’ve had so much potential but it was a complete BORING waste of time! Also, it’s crazy that some people have actually resorted to saying that if you don’t like this movie “you’re racist”, which is unbelievably ridiculous! The movie is just NOT GOOD no matter how badly people want it to be because they love the actors or the fact that it’s an all almost all black cast. People with even a smidge of good taste in movies would agree that this was not a good movie and certainly not a horror movie. The rave reviews were planted purposely to boost the movies ratings.

Josh Hartnett has always been one of my favorite actors, but this movie role was just NOT it. M Night Shayamalan’s movies are either a hit or miss, some are great, but this was definitely a miss in every sense of the word. It was cheesy, extremely predictable, completely unrealistic, and lacked character development. The acting was horrible and I found myself bored, rolling my eyes throughout the movie and hoping it would be over soon. I went into this movie with an open mind, but had a feeling from the trailer it wouldn’t be the best, but I still wanted to judge for myself after watching. Wow….yeah this was bad. QUICK small spoiler alert…… The fact that this movie was about a serial killer and there were zero scenes of him killing just pushed it over the edge of stupid for me. Definitely do not recommend paying for it at the theatre. Save your money and wait until you’re able to stream it for free. You’re welcome.
