I feel like everyone else watched a different show. While it presents itself as an intimate look into Davidson’s mind, I never felt like he was fully being honest and open. It feels performative. It was being compared to Curb but the celebrity cameos rarely added anything to the show beyond the individual scene that was filmed. The absurdist elements at really random moments took me out of the show and reeked of not being able to write your way out of a situation. Pete’s mom is playing basketball with a bunch of suburban moms and we need a joke, why not just have her dunk and break the backboard. Just lazy.
