Medusa is one of the most powerful mortal women in Greek mythology and this book portrayed her as a stereotypical "girl power" annoying, wimpy valley-girl type. Horrible writing with unsuccessful and corny humor (think Robin Williams in Aladdin, but bad) that spelled out the message of the story as if the readers are stupid. It also made me really really mad that this book made another female character the antagonist to perpetuate the woman-on-woman hate instead of making the true villain of the story the man who harmed Medusa. It made Medusa a victim instead of a survivor. I would recommend other modern retellings such as Circe by Madeline Miller or Ariadne by Jennifer Saint if you want to read mythology from the perspective of the often disregarded women who are made powerful despite misogyny.
