I grew up in the Washington DC area and always enjoyed Tony's and Mike's columns in the Post. So, it was natural for me to become a fan of PTI with the colorful banter and interesting points of view. However, over the years I've grown tired of PTI's (and ESPN's) incessant coverage of the NBA and the NFL. Sure, I like those sports as much as anyone, but it's a one (or two) track mindset for this program.
In full disclosure, I'm a huge ice hockey fan and this is the best time of year with the ongoing Stanley Cup playoffs. Widely recognized as one of the most physically demanding and fast-paced sports on the planet, hockey offers THE most challenging tournament to gain the most coveted trophy, the Stanley Cup. But, wouldn't you think PTI (or ESPN) would dedicate more time to this sport given its recent investments in its programming? Apparently not. Tony's and Mike's knowledge of the sport could be captured in a thimble. Reduced on today's show to a ticket "scandal" and a last-ten-seconds "who do ya got in tonight's games" piece, this is the level of knowledge this pair brings to this broadcast. Spring training baseball and the NFL draft get better coverage on PTI/ESPN. It's a complete joke! Rather, how about "5 good minutes" with Barry Melrose or Linda Cohn on what will be 4 fascinating conference semifinal series forthcoming???
C'mon guys ... man up on the NHL. The best team sport going!
