This movie feels like Lanthimos made a scene out of every page in his notebook of random cool ideas and stringed them together, but without any overall plan or theme. As such it somehow manages to be both too long and too short. Too short because the 2hr44m runtime has no chance to fit everything he wants, and too long because 85% should have been cut anyway. There are some sparkles of light, like the acting and Lanthimos's very very skillful depiction of domestic violence. But mostly it felt like a momentous waste of time and despite all the shock and gore I'm fairly certain I will have forgotten it all in a week.
