If you are a fan of dark mysterious films that don't seem to go anywhere, this might be for you. likewise, if you are drawn to the early films of David Lynch you might like this. it is beautifully shot, mostly on Steadycam with a lot of long, slow scenes that feature both dark and foreboding outdoor street sets as well as close ups that go on a little too long. the story is
supposedly based on a 1934 novel which the director saw fit to ignore for the most part. there isn't a lot of dialogue and when there is, it's poorly dubbed. the story seems to center around guilt and the fear of something that is never quite explained.
the main cast members do a great job of conveying their emotions without dialogue.
if on the other hand you like dark crime dramas that have a plot that doesn't require an Ouija Board to figure out, look elsewhere. do I recommend it? well, yes.
it's two hours of great monochromatic cinematography .
