This was included in a digital boxed set I’d bought; it’s never a book I would have considered buying otherwise. I had planned on skipping it entirely but SMeyer’s foreword was unexpectedly intriguing so I gave it a go. I’m sorry now that I had. It’s a cash-grab, for starters, regurgitating a story not once (midnight sun), but twice. Flipping ALL of the genders (minus Renee and Charlie) belabours the story to the breaking point, and because of the mental gymnastics required to keep all of the characters straight, it makes them very unengaging and one dimensional.
So unless you’re desperate for a slightly nostalgic, weird funhouse wander through TwilightLand (with a very rushed and ridiculous ending), don’t bother with Life and Death. It’s not worth the eyeroll-induced headache.
