I’m usually a big fan of this type of movie, alien invasion/ survival etc but Rim of the World was definitely an exception.
Despite the film being rated as a 15 it had the story development of a film for a far lower age group, this gave it a cheesy and cheap story line which was predictable and dull in places. Something you would see in a kids film.
Each character had their own physical and mental flaws explained through the film which they all seemed to overcome at the end of the film, which made the story predictable and obvious. There are also so many plot holes that they don’t even bother to explain like 1) why did the astronaut have a key for a computer on earth while in space? Bit useless 2) why couldn’t the JPL crew just point the missiles at the mothership without the key ( it looked pretty massive) 3) they said on the news nasa lost communication with the space station then the next day after the astronaut landed (which no one would have known about) the army said they had been tasked to get the key from the astronaut ( who should have been in space...)
The introduction of the camp councillors was a waste of time as they leave the story almost immediately after being introduced. Also the introduction was even semi racist which was was surprising especially for a film based around young kids ( handshake and you can’t do it if your not black).
Overall, the visual effects were half descent however I had no love or even fondness for any of the kids, the plot was very weak, and attempting to reach a demographic way above what it should be. I’ve seen way better similar films.
