Firstly, apologies that I am unable to stretch to reading all the other reviews.
I am not a movie buff and I don't watch movies often. Anything connected to astronomy grabs my interest straight away but I hesitated in case it was another one of "those" disaster movies. It is a million miles from that! Not long in, I was hooked. Very quickly, I realised that this was not a run-of-the-mill treatment of the "comet heading for Earth" storyline.
The humble, grounded nature of the direction drew me right in. Utterly refreshing! I had to watch!
I got drawn right into the riproaring comet story right up to the point where they were sat at the dinner table holding hands (not gonna put a spoiler in) and I realised - DAMM! this is a metaphor for climate change. and If it isn't it should be!
It's late here and I am struggling to think of adjectives lol. But this movie is the best movie I have seen since Last Samurai. It is right up there with Godfather and Last Samurai.
I am now as obsessed with it as I was (and still am) with those movies. This is quite an achievement as it takes a lot for me to get enthusiastic
My own writing is not about comets or astronomy but this movie's style helped me realise something about my writing so I have learned a huge lesson from it.
This movie is essential for everyone to watch. Sadly, even if they watch it, some people will do exactly what the people in the movie did and F up the planet.
