Another “Black movie” made for white audiences with extremely stereotypical short-hand caricatures of Black people and white savior narrative. I’m sure the real story is much more interesting and nuanced, but this “after school special” was extremely problematic. Seemingly everyone behind the scenes in decision-making roles are white. We are better than this in 2020. All my favorite actors and none of my favorite acting.
