Karl “Karl T. Face” Dunn

Well, this one had its ups and downs. Despite some pacing problems, the bonkers set design and fun (though by no means unique) plot hooks make for an enjoyable watch, for me at least. Bonus points for a extra-cheesy kill scenes.

This movie is absolutely coo-coo bananas. Batman and his various adversaries/allies in feudal Japan is one thing, but it takes a gunpowder rocket straight into crazyland towards the climax. My jaw dropped. I had to pause the film. The overall experience was certainly entertaining, to be sure. A few low or confusing points, but pretty well put together for what it is. And then the final battle goes and eclipses everything else. It's worth seeing, trust me. Just be sure to have plenty of sake on hand.

Faithful as it can be, modernized where it needs to be. I have a soft spot for this story, so nostalgia may be helping its score, but I'd still be put off if it was bad.
