The film tells the story of Nella (Ananya) and Joe (Vihaan Samat), the perfect influencer couple who go through a break-up. Nella turns to an AI app to erase him from her life; but the technology takes things a little too far.
The leads, reunited after their stunning pairing in Call Me Bae, initially feel like extensions from their characters in the series. But CTRL eventually moves forward and takes its true shape as a thriller.
Motwane keeps the length short at under 100 minutes; and though this does prevent development of characters, it is crucial to prevent the film from dragging. The engrossing background music (Sneha Khanwalkar) and good writing (Avinash Sampath and Sumukhi Suresh) aid his approach.
It is the quiet moments and cuts between scenes that will leave you intentionally unsettled but unable to look away, though.
CTRL is all about Ananya — her natural prowess as an actor comes out as well as ever, with her character choices only getting better with each release.
The Verdict:
Just like social media, CTRL is way more than what meets the eye.
The film captures you through the screen within the screen; and Ananya Panday shines bright in her most natural yet breathtaking performance to date.
