I’m being generous with two stars because I enjoyed the cinematography, but the plot was unfocused and had a few too many holes for my liking. It couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a psychological thriller/crime drama or paranormal horror, and it failed to marry the two genres like it wanted to. There are plenty of attempts to build dread, but it all falls flat, and I never truly felt like our protagonist was facing any danger. The trailer for the movie was scarier than the movie itself. The trailer also never shows the killer, Nic Cage, who is highly prevalent and visible throughout the film. I mistakenly believed that it would be a subtle, sinister, dark film, but any movie starring Nic Cage instantly becomes solely about how far Nic Cage can push the weird-envelope. Slow pacing, no payoff, and left with secondhand embarrassment whenever Longlegs was onscreen. Not a good horror film.
