Compelling reading. Conrad has summed up the ugliness and insensitivity of European imperialism in Africa comprehensively and frighteningly. It is a challenging and demanding text because the subject matter is frequently replete with horrific images that are bound to unsettle the conventional mind. A novel worthy of much thought.

Psychologically this film held me spellbound. I am under no delusions of just how indifferent, callous and self-centered a person can be. I see and read about such people everyday. This movie highlights this characteristic of the human being splendidly. The final comment in the denouement deserves an Oscar.
