This movie showcases a very inaccurate portrayal of domestic violence and doesn't use the opportunity to create a more realistic awareness on this truly problematic societal issue.
The majority of the cast is so gorgeous to look at, it's almost like the director didn't want any 'ugliness' to be attached to their characters so they made subtle insinuations rather than directly showcasing real life realities (e.g. 1.) The female lead got a minor scratch or bruise or a bit of blood but her facial beauty was not messed with at all even though in real life victims of domestic abuse are usually beaten so badly that there is visible damage to their features/body.
2.) The male lead was supposed to be an abuser but we don't actually genuinely see him doing real abuse and his abuse actually genuinely looks like accidents that could happen to anyone (e.g. *spoiler: whose hand might not accidentally hit a person in the face whilst they are recoiling from getting an oven burn? I'm a woman and i think i might do that by mistake in the same situation!) Its almost like because of his appearance, the director subconsciously wouldn't want such a looker to be portrayed beating a woman up because it would make him look bad.)
If you'd like to gain an awareness of what domestic violence, within an affluent community, might look like I'd recommend you watch the movie 'Enough' starring Jennifer Lopez.
