Cheese overload, for viewers that don't discriminate between good and poor plots and production. The story is very often predictable and makes for pleasant enough viewing for some that seek a tame series.
The lack of continuity and of keeping to period hair, makeup and dialogue makes it very cheesy. I am certain early 20th century hair fashion, specifically 1910 did not include iron curled hair, highlights and hair colors, not to mention heavy eye shadow and face contouring with makeup.
A lesson in production could be learnt from the English to make period dramas as authentic as possible. The dialogue and acting is laughable.
