Family Reunion-It's a clean family sitcom! Hats off to the Creator and casting director! I love each and every actor/actress chosen for each role. Sweet, endearing, and, yes, sometimes corny. Ha ha
Corny is good! It creates a light-hearted, feel-good environment. The show brings laughter to those who want to laugh and does so as it makes simple points about some of the issues black families have faced and face living as a roughly 14% population in a white majority nation. I loved the episode in which Grandma M'dear gives the kids a family history lesson that begins with an heirloom locket and that leads to the historical family wedding broom. I love that every episode ends with a tribute to a person who helped make America a better place to raise a child. I find myself digging in the internet to find out about that person! (I'd love it if the show could add at least a paragraph that honors the tributee. )
As an American living in the South since I was sixteen, having lived through race riots in the North and, having, literally, watched attitudes of people in all colors of skin change toward one another through the years (some very positive changes/some very negative), as well as one who has watched as the population changed it's view on spanking a child's rump from the majority overwhelmingly enforcing it in the 60's and 70's to today's world society calling it child abuse, as I consider all the fear, hate, and angst in the world—with a media system that exploits every negative as much as it possibly can to increase ratings—in my opinion, "Family Reunion" dips into some old school family tradition from a black-southern-Gospel-loving-family viewpoint to bring to air this refreshing, endearing family friendly FUNNY comedy! I love it and can't wait for "Part 2"!
(Oh, M'dear and the shoe!!! Ha ha ha ha Well-done slo-mo scene! My gracious! Funny!!!)
