Sadly, this is not a sci-fi series about an Invasion, but the invasion of soap opera writing under the premise of some kind of Invasion. Wonderful production values, but simply horrible writing trying evoke some emotional involvement. By the end of the second hour we watched with remote in hand scrubbing forward to identify some interesting story points. In hours 3 and 4 it was pretty difficult. Apple has fallen into the trap of thinking that big budgets equal good stories, and clearly it doesn’t.

Great idea about an alternate history of space exploration, but not really science fiction in the tradition ‘warp speed’ sense. Season one was very compelling and containing wonderfully well done visual effects and good story execution. But sadly as each episode of season two descends further into soap opera domain. My family now watches with remote firmly in hand to skip through painfully long sequences of boring dialog and affair ridden relationships to look for some action scenes about the space program. Apple seems to have fallen to the same situation as all the other streaming producers that either can’t find writers that can sustain stories or can’t afford to produce them. Either way it’s hard to imagine we will hang around for season three.
