I haven't seen this movie in years, glad it's still playing. Love that movie, so funny. I'm rewatching it and it's still just as funny as when I saw it years ago! Spoilers:
This movie is really just for entertainment. Shelly longs as quirky romance novelist is hysterical and trying to set her friend (who she just me) up with her brother she just seems to try too hard and seems to take things to the extreme which is part of her character and what makes her friends and family actually love her. Her friend only met her brother once at an awkward blind/trick dinner date that just seems forced. In hindsight the funny thing about all this is maybe her friend would've come around to her brother eventually if things weren't forced. She could've just invited them both for a dinners together with the family instead of turning it into a date. Her heart of in the right place but crazy way of doing things.
The dinner date is hysterical because not only are they both tricked and forced into a blind date but her husband who seems to think he's a good cook and probably isn't makes a meal that might not be a familiar food to a lot of people and awkwardly stares her down till she very reluctantly tries it and doesn't seem to like it at all and seems to want to be anywhere else but there. The funny thing is that meal couldn't have been good if they were tossing it after she left.
The minute her friend shows no interest in her brother she immediately turns him Into a romance novel character and changes his whoke identity. Only in a comedy movie would that happen but it's all fun. It's pretty believable they were able to pull it off because she only met him once and I don't think i would remember what a person I met once looked like weather I found him attractive or not but in hindsight creepy on many levels, like she's his sister and your not supposed to be so consumed with your brothers live life but it works for the movie.
Actually the fact that she politely turns him down for a date knowing she wouldn't be interested and not hurting him shows integrity on her end weather she thought she was being shallow or not. Maybe she thought the biker persona made him cool but then the real him was about to leave her in a dangerous situation so maybe her sister did give him more confidence. . How could he have wanted to domtgat? It's one thing not to want to fight the guy but to leave glger flat? When you love someone.you be er want to leave them in a dangerous bsitiation.
