It's interesting that more than a few people I urged to watch this film had reservations about watching a period piece with subtitles. Everyone of those people loved the film. The Promised Land is sweeping, from the beautiful cinematography of the stark landscapes, to the beautiful story, which to me, is about redemption, personal transformation and yes, a love story. Every performance is close to perfection. There are moments of cruelty that are truly unsettling, to say the least but they are paramount to the story. The ending is perhaps one of the most moving I have seen in many years, just breathtaking. Please watch this film.
