I think this movie came out when I was born so I didn't exactly follow the original story but I was expecting this to be a *modern* update. It wasn't. The dialogue for the new crew was odd (like a older boomer who has no idea how today's kids speak would write it) . There was an odd yellow haze on the whole thing (I guess an attempt to match the original 80s movie look?). Tom Cruise is looking OLD, too old to be flying fighter jets, yet we are to believe his body is more capable of handling the intense Gs than the young ones? Yeah right. All while going on an unnecessarily dangerous mission that could have been completed by unmanned drones, I suspect. The only theme I recognized was the real life typical boomer who is too proud and stubborn to know when to walk away and relinquish the torch to the next generation. A reminder that we will most likely have to pry it out of their cold, dead hands.

If you want mind-numbing action scenes with an absurd plot, this movie is for you. If you're looking for something more intelligent, look elsewhere. I was really disappointed with this movie, considering the high praise it got from moviegoers. The idea that the dinosaurs are now just co-existing with people is laughable. There are dinosaurs EVERYWHERE which really takes the awe and magic of seeing them onscreen away. It's just too much. Dinosaur overload. At least in the original movies, when you saw a dinosaur on screen, you knew it was an important moment. Not anymore. The dinosaurs are now background actors. Neat...? I always hate when filmmakers are more concerned with making a movie *look cool* than telling an smart, interesting story. I can literally hear the director saying "I want more dinosaurs! Make em bigger, better, louder! More explosions! Car chases! Motorcycle chases! Plane crashes!" What an insult to the collective intelligence of a movie audience. Make it loud, fast and explosive and they won't care about the story. Well, you lost me with this one. Time to put this franchise out of it's misery. Unless you like watching dinosaurs battle it out like they're in a Michael Bay production. Then I guess, you do you. Just realize these movies don't come anywhere close to capturing the magic and beauty of the original.

This movie was surprisingly good! It had a great blend of the old and the new. Had something for the 80s/90s kids but definitely an updated story for today's kids. You can tell that it was written by fans of the franchise who really understood what originally made it so loved . Seth Rogan and pals did a great job bringing it back to the big screen in it's former glory. The storyline was simple, not over-the-top or too complicated to follow/believe. Good action, not overtly violent. Great for kids young and old. If you want a fun time out with family and friends, go see this movie.
