This was awful. And I’m someone who loves the film and the musical. I’ve seen the musical on stage and it’s really good.
Everything that was supposed to make this different from the original, the songs, the fact that it’s a musical, is watered down. Half of the songs are cut so the singing comes comes out of nowhere. The ones they kept are remixed weird, there’s no belting with Cady’s songs, no real belting besides Regina’s songs.
Compare I See Stars, Stupid With Love, and Revenge Party to the OG Broadway recordings, and it sounds like a last minute middle school production. They made Cady and Karen side characters.
I mean this was bad. The plot didn’t flow. Basically we’re just introduced to Janis and her friend, Janis tells Cady to mess with Regina, she just goes along with it. They provide no context and I think the film is way too lazy hoping the audience would remember the movie or the musical and make sense of the train wreck going on.
Not to mention the awful fashion, wardrobe needs to be fired.
My last complaint is the heavy auto tuning in the singing. Sounded like T Pain at times.
I loved the actresses who played Gretchen and Regina. That’s all I can really think of when it comes to what I like about this movie.
I would’ve preferred a pro shot of a stage production or a real Mean Girls sequel. Yeah this was bad.
