The vision of an auteur seeking to divide his viewership. Does not fit into the trilogy, nay franchise, as well as it could and should have. Excellent effects (as expected). Immense box office returns (again, we would expect no less) but a hollow and forgetable romp, which tries to redefine established characters and fantasy archetypes according to the inflexible ideas and perspectives of an excellent cinematographer, who also happens to be a truly incompetent writer.
