I was very moved by this book as Janet explores the lives of her parents who experienced horrible events during the Holocaust. Her research into their lives and the history of the Holocaust is very extensive and I learned so much. I will be haunted by her story but also uplifted because of how music helped sustain her parents during and after the war. The story of how the released prisoners continued to struggle in refugee camps for years was new to me. Janet’s writing is beautiful and captivating. She eloquently describes the depth of emotion she has experienced as she finally learned about her parent’s history and as she became a successful cellist herself. (I attended many Minnesota Orchestra concerts with her in the cello section!). I highly recommend this book for music lovers everywhere, but also for those who want to learn more about those who suffered during the Holocaust.
