I have no idea why the writer thought to insert a domestic violence scene into the first episode. The scene was devastating and distracting. Totally unnecessary. It was shocking and out of no where. Was it done to attract viewers? It was totally insensitive to use such a horrific true social issue to sensationalize a story or fictional movie. An immediate turn off. If this story was originally to show classism, etc…. What is the writer implying when it comes to domestic violence ? What’s with the calm reaction of the parents after learning their children were killed?

Spoiler Alert! One problem I have with the writing: Season 1, Episode 7… In most family homes, regardless of ethnicity- no one just out of prison sits in the living room watching the game and tells everyone to “try shutting your mouths…” this is said by the character Luis. In episode 6, Luis has no privacy, autonomy, yet obedient. Lack of consistency in the writing, especially telling stories of Latino household. Most are very respectful and hard working. Also, Julio’s girlfriend should be more his age. Show and write how it really is. Older Latina women are beautiful. Maggie looks more like his daughter. Realistically, improve the writing and casting. Shows like this are needed today, and long overdue.
