The tension in the show is incredible. Martin Freeman is, of course, excellent in the role but so are the other actors. As an American it is difficult at times to understand the accents but it makes me even that much more focused on the dialogue. I think it really shows the gritty side of police work. It illustrates the push and pull of the streets for the officers who work in those circumstances. Most officers go into police work to help people. This is true based on research in the field. It’s easy to see how people could get burned out so quickly as demonstrated in this show. I would highly recommend this program. At times it’s disturbing to watch because of the tension that is created by the writing and the filming, but it’s a good exploration of relationships between people and the hierarchies that exist in our society.
