It was a good book. To be fair did feel like a retelling of the first book as far as the contest goes and the seven shards, but if you read the lines between the main plot points there is a lot of fun to be had reading this book. It's almost as if the first book was retold in an alternate universe with more advanced technology. That is one of the issues I had with it. I felt like they kept leaping decades or technological advancements. They went from the traditional immersion rigs to the ONI to artificial intelligence like it was nothing. As well as adding smaller things here and there that would feel out of place in ready player one. All in all though, this book was a fun continuation that took a unique spin on AI and explored the benefits and issues of BCI technology. Read it with an open mind. As if its an episode of "what if" then decide in your own mind if you want to think of it as Canon. Even tho it technically is.
