Warning spoilers
Genuinely, this is a creepy film that delves into the disturbing lore of Asian black magic. And, the creepiness behind the occult practices and beliefs are disturbing. However my biggest gripes made this film half unenjoyable. I don't like how in the beginning they show a part of the ending with no context, and having it revealed at the beginning already makes me know that the ending act will go crazy, there was no point in revealing it there. The film jumps back and forth between past and present; sometimes it can get a little hard to follow what is what. Now, there are some big revelations that are revealed through the past by some camcorder videos, but they are only like miniscule in length but play a major role in the movie as they ought to be, it's more revealing in that sense and clears major plot holes you may have had through the story. Although, the major sequences of the main story could have done away without the major back and forth, it should've been past events to present, and then big revealing things from the past. Last gripe, there are soo many predictable jump scares it is insane, and the characters are just plain illogical. I get it, without stupid decisions the movie wouldn't work, however some decisions the characters make are just soo stupid it just breaks the realism for me to be honest.
With all that being said do I think it's a bad movie? No, I was genuinely creeped out and scared by some of the concepts and ideas this movie had, and they were for the most part conveyed decently. This movie doesn't have any ground breaking horror movie elements that pushes movie boundaries, it has pretty much every horror movie cliche.
