It’s a pretty show to watch, with beautiful props and everything, but the strory itself did not impress me. It’s like a little bit of everything... political drama, fantasy, action, romance... but not great in any of those categories.
Political drama in this show is indeed complex and bloody and massive but you see it all the time in history and historical dramas. Following so many characters with little portrait made me feel like I was in a long and diffuse history class where I have to memorize all the facts and names.
Fantasy takes too little place in the first four seasons that you hardly see the white walkers or dead army or dragons fight. After season 4 the battles with the dead here and there are kind of cool (except for the very last one) but watching four seasons to see a couple of those battles is just too long.
Although action and romance are smaller elements in this show, there are so many violent or sexually explicit scenes which I found distracting and disturbing. I wonder how many of audience still like the show and find it exciting if you take away all the explicit scenes from it.
